Fine old Dixie recipes cookbook wood cover published 1939
Here is a wonderful piece of black memorabilia in the form of a 1939 southern cook book with 322 old Dixie recipes.
Compiled and edited by Lillie S. Lustig, S. Claire Soundheim, and Sarah Rensel. Decorations by H. Charles Kellum, copyrighted 1939 and published by Culinary Arts Press.
The cookbook is heavily illustrated with many anecdotes and a carved wood "Mammy Cover". Inside, there's a soft cover book, also with mammy.
This 48 page book measures 9 1/4" by 6 1/4", has 48 pages, wooden color engraved cover of a black woman serving a turkey, and red plastic binder rings.
Recipes from "North Carolina Syllabub (A Builder-Upper)" to a long recipe for Mint Julep to "Pendennis Turtle Soup (The Soup That Made Kentucky Famous)" to "Queen of Trifles Pudding."
The book is in excellent condition with the exception of very slight surface wear to the wood, 2 missing binder clips, some yellowing to the pages and small tears at very bottom of a few, and some slight damage to one of the holes where the bottom binder clip goes in. Pen marking on inside of front cover, otherwise interior is clean and unmarked (see pix.)
